The Waffle Book Tag // waffle-themed book recommendations

Waffles are better than pancakes (PERIOD)

Pancakes are too… doughy, and they let syrup slide off the side of them like they’re not even trying. But waffles, waffles are crispy and soft, and they hold syrup close in dozens of tiny embraces because they know a happy meal takes work.

Waffles are deserving of a full book tag in their name.

Jenna from Bookmark Your Thoughts tagged me in this Waffle Book Tag over a month ago, so I thought it was high time to do it, especially with the holidays and all the sweet treat temptations rolling in.

(Thank you, Jenna! Jenna is awesome and you all should check her blog out!)

I’m excited for you all to feast your eyes on the adorable graphics made by Novels & Waffles, so let’s start:

The Rules

  1. Link back to the original creator, Kat @ Novels & Waffles.
  2. Feel free to use any of the waffle graphics in this post, just make sure to credit me (pretty pretty please with lots of maple syrup on top).
  3. Tag as many people as you want (or don’t want) to. No pressure here, folks!

The Questions

Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie

Goodreads / Book Depository

Murder on the Orient Express is a classic mystery book with one of the most shocking and memorable plot twists. It’s no wonder that it has numerous movie and TV show adaptions and is referenced nonstop throughout pop culture (my personal favorite being the Doctor Who episode “Mummy on the Orient Express”).

Josh and Hazel’s Guide to Not Dating by Christina Lauren

Goodreads / Book Depository

Josh and Hazel’s Guide to Not Dating is probably the best, most wholesome romance book I have ever read. The characters are lovable, the dialogue is hilarious, and the romance is so natural.

Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer

Goodreads / Book Depository

Who’s excited for the Artemis Fowl movie adaption coming out?

Personally, I’m hesitant to see one of my favorite childhood books on the big screen because the series means a ton to me 🙈. Thinking about the story—the child genius, the elves, the magic—brings me back to when I used to skip recess in elementary school to finish a chapter of the book. Please don’t mess it up, Disney!

Also, throwback to Eggo Waffles! My family used to buy them in bulk, so, by the time we got to the last few packs, the waffles were frozen frozen 😅.

Elend from The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson

Goodreads / Book Depository

It’s impossible for me to not include The Final Empire in a tag post, and Elend is a huge reason why I love the book so much. He’s the epitome of a do-gooder. He has an unwavering, yet naive sense of justice that I can’t help but to admire, and he must be protected.

Picture Us in the Light by Kelly Loy Gilbert

Book Review / Goodreads / Book Depository

Picture Us in the Light recently took me by surprise and made me cry (a lot). I went deeper into why it touched me in my (very personal) review for it where I also explained that it won’t affect everybody the same way it did me. In a nutshell, the book tackles a very specific Asian American experience that encompasses immigration, racism, and suicide.

A Little Something Different by Sandy Hall

Goodreads / Book Depository

It’s in the name.

A Little Something Different is a romance book told from the perspectives of everyone and everything in the story except for the two love interests. The readers watch the romance unfold from the POVs of a bus driver, squirrels, and even a bench in this cute spin on the genre.

Bloodlines by Richelle Mead

Goodreads / Book Depository

Bloodlines is a spinoff series based off The Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead. I read this series ages ago, and I honestly don’t remember much about it asides from being very much invested in the mystery and romance. What that mystery was, I can’t tell you (something something, vampire royalty and vampire hunters??), but you can read all about it across the series’ six books 💃!

Plus, the nice thing about Bloodlines is that you don’t need to read The Vampire Academy to understand it. I’ve actually never read its mother series, so I can attest to the truth of that statement 😅.

I’m stealing Jenna’s answer here and going with bookmarks! I don’t have much use for them now since I usually read ebooks, but I used to collect bookmarks from my elementary school library 😁.

My Nominations

Please don’t feel pressured to do this tag, but I’d love to read your answers!
