I never thought that I would do a book haul.
It’s largely because I rarely read physical books, and hauls are something I associate with tangible objects (although I know people do book hauls with their ebooks 🙂). However, I visited a giant book sale yesterday and managed to find ✨three✨ books that interested me.
Let me also add that since there were sooo manyyy boooks, I definitely judged them all by their covers, and I judged them HARD.
Since I haven’t post in over a month (school is much more hectic this semester than I expected) and have no spare mental energy to write one of my backed-up reviews (school is also requiring more of my dwindling brain power this semester than I expected), I thought a haul post would suffice. In no particular order, here’s what I picked up:
Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel

Goodreads Description: One snowy night a famous Hollywood actor slumps over and dies onstage during a production of King Lear. Hours later, the world as we know it begins to dissolve. Moving back and forth in time—from the actor’s early days as a film star to fifteen years in the future, when a theater troupe known as the Traveling Symphony roams the wasteland of what remains—this suspenseful, elegiac, spellbinding novel charts the strange twists of fate that connect five people: the actor, the man who tried to save him, the actor’s first wife, his oldest friend, and a young actress with the Traveling Symphony, caught in the crosshairs of a dangerous self-proclaimed prophet.

I was so happy when I found this book since it’s been on my TBR for ages. I almost didn’t pick it up because the cover is different from the one I’m familiar with 🙈. This book is highly regarded by some of my favorite book reviewers, so I wasn’t going to miss the chance to purchase it on sale.
Leaving Poppy by Kate Cann

Goodreads Description: Amber’s forging a new life for herself, when suddenly she falls ill and her family come to look after her. However, something in the house responds to Poppy’s presence, something malign and threatening. Evil seems to permeate everywhere and Amber thinks she might never be able to escape.

The first thing that drew my eyes to Leaving Poppy was the splattered blood design on the cover. The next thing I saw was the inscription at the top of the cover reading, “You can leave, but she will follow…,” and the book was sold. After I decided that I was buying this book, I turned to the friend I was with to show her it only to find her already behind me waiting to show me the same book 😂.
Channel Blue by Jay Martel

Goodreads Description: Alien Execs are planning a disastrous finale to their Big Brother style show, in which earth is the star. Only one man can save our planet, and he’s hardly a likely hero. Earth used to be Galaxy Entertainment’s most lucrative show. The inhabitants of the Western Galaxy—the savviest, richest demographic in the Milky Way—just couldn’t get enough of the day-to-day details of the average Earthling’s life. But now Channel Blue’s ratings are flagging and its producers are planning a spectacular finale. In just three weeks, their TV show will go out with a bang. The trouble is, so will Earth.

Any cover with something space-related is bound to grab my attention. Science fiction tends to be such a serious genre with its books trying to answer hard-hitting questions about the environment, technology, or society in the future. As much as I appreciate those stories, I like the idea that this book mixes science fiction with humor to tell a tale that could easily be disturbing.

Lovely haul, Belle! ❤
I've heard amazing things about Station 11 as well, and I hope you love all these books. Happy reading!! 🙂

I hope school is going well for you! I also hope you enjoy all of these! The synopsis to Leaving Poppy sounds amazing! I’m also kind of biased and want to read it simply because the characters name is Amber XD

Thanks, Amber!
Hahaha, that’s understandable—I’d be biased to a book that has a character with the same name as me too 😁. I hope you like Leaving Poppy if you do pick it up!

Thank you! I hope you enjoy them if you do end up reading them 🙂. Also, I use a combination of canva.com and the photo editing features available on my IPhone to make my blog images 😁.
