My First Book Haul

I never thought that I would do a book haul.

It’s largely because I rarely read physical books, and hauls are something I associate with tangible objects (although I know people do book hauls with their ebooks 🙂). However, I visited a giant book sale yesterday and managed to find ✨three✨ books that interested me.

Let me also add that since there were sooo manyyy boooks, I definitely judged them all by their covers, and I judged them HARD.

Since I haven’t post in over a month (school is much more hectic this semester than I expected) and have no spare mental energy to write one of my backed-up reviews (school is also requiring more of my dwindling brain power this semester than I expected), I thought a haul post would suffice. In no particular order, here’s what I picked up:

Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel

I was so happy when I found this book since it’s been on my TBR for ages. I almost didn’t pick it up because the cover is different from the one I’m familiar with 🙈. This book is highly regarded by some of my favorite book reviewers, so I wasn’t going to miss the chance to purchase it on sale.

Leaving Poppy by Kate Cann

Goodreads Description: Amber’s forging a new life for herself, when suddenly she falls ill and her family come to look after her. However, something in the house responds to Poppy’s presence, something malign and threatening. Evil seems to permeate everywhere and Amber thinks she might never be able to escape.

The first thing that drew my eyes to Leaving Poppy was the splattered blood design on the cover. The next thing I saw was the inscription at the top of the cover reading, “You can leave, but she will follow…,” and the book was sold. After I decided that I was buying this book, I turned to the friend I was with to show her it only to find her already behind me waiting to show me the same book 😂.

Channel Blue by Jay Martel

Any cover with something space-related is bound to grab my attention. Science fiction tends to be such a serious genre with its books trying to answer hard-hitting questions about the environment, technology, or society in the future. As much as I appreciate those stories, I like the idea that this book mixes science fiction with humor to tell a tale that could easily be disturbing.

SIDE NOTE: I’ve really missed interacting with you all 😭! School has truly been trying to destroy me piece by piece (but as much as I complain about it, I do enjoy what I’m learning). I’m also kinda bummed because I was able to stay a couple books ahead of my reading goal throughout summer and that was all ruined with a month of school. I’m two books behind now, but I’m hoping I can catch up on my reading these next two weeks since I should have a lighter load.
