My Favorite Booktubers

I like to procrastinate reading by watching videos about people who are reading.

It’s truly a strange world we’re living in.

I’m sure some of you have also caught yourself in the same loop. You’re searching for a new book to read, watch some book recommendation videos, find a book to read (!!), and… continue to watch booktube videos.

The cycle is inevitable.

(Lol. Okay, Thanos.)

Anyways, here are some of my favorite booktubers to watch while I procrastinate 🎉:

PeruseProject

Regan from PeruseProject is the first booktuber I ever watched and gets full credit for being my introduction to the whole booktube community. I get so many awesome recommendations from her because 𝙨𝙝𝙚 𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙙𝙨 𝙨𝙤 𝙢𝙪𝙘𝙝. Her reading vlogs are equally entertaining as they are awesome sources to find new reads (they’re the inspiration for my random read-a-thons). I also love watching her non-bookish monthly favorites to see what movies and shows she’s watching. 𝘐𝘵’𝘴 𝘨𝘰𝘰𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘦 𝘢 𝘸𝘦𝘭𝘭-𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘥 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘤𝘩 𝘱𝘰𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘰.

💐 Notable Video:

🌱 𝚁𝙴𝙰𝙳𝙸𝙽𝙶 𝚅𝙻𝙾𝙶: 𝚁𝚎𝚐𝚊𝚗 𝙰𝚝𝚝𝚎𝚖𝚙𝚝𝚜 𝚊 𝚁𝚎𝚊𝚍 𝚊 𝚃𝚑𝚘𝚗!

This is Regan’s first reading vlog after going a minute without doing them. It is a great start to a series I continue to watch her channel for.

cari cakes

Cari is an American expatriate who currently works and lives in South Korea.

Now, she’s not technically a booktuber. She posts more vlogs and Q&As about her life in Korea versus videos exclusively about books. However, she is an avid reader who frequents coffee shops to sit at while she catches up on her current read, so it’s easy to get in the bookish mood watching her channel. There are also always a lot of nature shots in her videos overlapped with calming, indie-sounding music, which is great for decompressing before tucking into a book.

💐 Notable Videos:

🌱 𝙰 𝙻𝚒𝚝𝚝𝚕𝚎 𝙱𝚘𝚘𝚔 𝙷𝚊𝚞𝚕 | 𝚏𝚒𝚗𝚊𝚕𝚕𝚢 𝚐𝚘𝚝 𝚐𝚘𝚘𝚍𝚛𝚎𝚊𝚍𝚜 𝚊𝚗𝚍 𝚛𝚎𝚊𝚍 𝚙𝚊𝚌𝚑𝚒𝚗𝚔𝚘

The first bit of this video where Cari describes her struggle to film the video outdoors is a good example of her understated humor.

🌱  𝚊 𝚝𝚑𝚊𝚗𝚔 𝚢𝚘𝚞 𝚝𝚘 𝚜𝚙𝚛𝚒𝚗𝚐

I was so surprised by how beautiful this ode to Spring was when Cari released it. I’m not sure why though. She speaks so eloquently in her videos, so it isn’t a far cry to assume that she would be a great writer as well.

Ariel Bissett

Ariel is another great speaker. While I don’t get many book recommendations from her channel, I love watching it for her thoughtful bookish discussions. It’s a joy to watch her because she’s able to maintain a positive appearance while being very candid.

💐 Notable Videos:

🌱 𝙼𝚒𝚌𝚑𝚎𝚕𝚕𝚎 𝙾𝚋𝚊𝚖𝚊 𝙶𝚒𝚟𝚎𝚜 𝙰𝚍𝚟𝚒𝚌𝚎 𝚘𝚗 𝙲𝚑𝚊𝚗𝚐𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚈𝚘𝚞𝚛 𝙿𝚊𝚝𝚑

Ariel did a fantastic interview with Michelle Obama about her book Becoming. I’m not a fan of non-fiction, but this video made me want to pick up the book.

🌱 𝚒 𝚝𝚛𝚒𝚎𝚍 𝚛𝚎𝚊𝚍𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚋𝚎𝚏𝚘𝚛𝚎 𝚋𝚎𝚍 𝚎𝚟𝚎𝚛𝚢 𝚍𝚊𝚢 𝚏𝚘𝚛 𝚊 𝚠𝚎𝚎𝚔

Ariel wanted to get back into the habit of reading everyday, so she created the #readingafter10 experiment where she tried to read after 10 p.m every day for a week. It was an interesting idea that I even tried for myself (and found very effective).

littlespider9

Marisa from littlespider 9 is such a gentle soul. Her video schedule is a bit erratic—she’ll go on random hiatuses—but I think that’s one of the reasons I love watching her. She’s a working girl trying to find some book-life balance (𝚎𝚡𝚑𝚒𝚋𝚒𝚝 𝚊.), and I find that very relatable.

I also find that her taste in reading is more (…)mature(?) than mine. Marisa reads a lot of nonfiction and non-YA fiction (𝚎𝚡𝚑𝚒𝚋𝚒𝚝 𝚋.) so her reading choices really broaden my horizons, book-genre-wise.

💐 Notable Videos:

🌱 𝙰 𝙲𝚊𝚜𝚞𝚊𝚕 𝙲𝚘𝚖𝚎𝚋𝚊𝚌𝚔: 𝚆𝚑𝚊𝚝 𝙸’𝚟𝚎 𝙱𝚎𝚎𝚗 𝚁𝚎𝚊𝚍𝚒𝚗𝚐

exhibit a.

🌱 𝙰 𝙱𝚕𝚊𝚌𝚔 𝙵𝚛𝚒𝚍𝚊𝚢 𝙱𝚘𝚘𝚔 𝙷𝚊𝚞𝚕 [𝚅𝚕𝚘𝚐𝚖𝚊𝚜 𝙳𝚊𝚢 𝟷𝟸]

chelseadolling reads

Chelsea is my go-to channel when I’m looking for diverse, YA contemporaries. Like Regan, she reads SO much. She’s always on top of all the new YA releases, and is an especially good source for LGBT stories.

💐 Notable Video:

🌱 𝚀𝚄𝙴𝙴𝚁 𝚈𝙰 𝚁𝙴𝙲𝙾𝙼𝙼𝙴𝙽𝙳𝙰𝚃𝙸𝙾𝙽𝚂 (𝚊𝚜 𝚙𝚊𝚛𝚝 𝚘𝚏 𝚝𝚑𝚛 𝚂𝚃𝙰𝚁𝚆𝙾𝚁𝙻𝙳 𝚋𝚘𝚘𝚔𝚝𝚞𝚋𝚎 𝚝𝚘𝚞𝚛!)

If you’re looking for some LGBT book recommendations before Pride month (June) rolls around, this video is a great place to start.

Thanks for reading! Who are some of your favorite booktubers? Do you already watch any of the booktubers I mentioned? Let me know 🙂.
